A Vision Zero approach to road safety management is based on the belief that no death or serious injury is acceptable on roads, and follows the principles of the Safe System, where the five pillars of the road environment work together to prevent death and serious injury from road crashes. But what happens when post-crash care is needed? And what does ‘good care’ look like?

This year, the charity Brake will support more road victims than ever through its National Road Victim Service. Hear more about how the charity is helping individuals and families reach better outcomes when the worse happens.

Jami Blythe, Development Manager, Brake

Jami Blythe is development manager at Brake, the road safety charity. A former roads policing and family liaison officer, Jami investigated fatal collisions and provided support to bereaved families. She was part of the ‘Operation Dragoon’ team at Northumbria Police, which looked at targeted enforcement of persistent road traffic offenders to prevent further road harm.

Jami went on to complete a Professional Doctorate in young driver road safety at the University of Sunderland.

She now uses her skills and experience in the post-crash charitable sector delivering projects to increase awareness of the National Road Victim Service, and working in partnership with statutory funders to ensure equitable access to road victim support.
