Tyres as a causal factor in incidents
TyreSafe will set out how it supports a safe and sustainable approach to road safety interventions across Great Britain and how it is working with road safety practitioners to understand the scale of the problem around illegal and defective tyres on British roads.
The presentation will include the latest research around the state of tyres on British roads and how TyreSafe is developing effective partnerships to tackle this growing safety issue.
Stuart Lovatt & Jason Simms, TyreSafe
Stuart Lovatt’s previous role as Strategic Road Safety Lead at National Highways saw him gain extensive experience in road safety strategy and delivery at the highest level. He represented National Highways and supported the Department for Transport at a range of national strategic road safety Boards and Committees, including the National Road User Safety Committee for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and the Parliamentary Council for Transport Safety Behavioural Advisory Group (PACTS). Stuart is a long-standing judge for HRH Prince Michael of Kent’s International Road Safety Awards, a role he has fulfilled for over 20 years.
In September 2022 Stuart was appointed Chair of TyreSafe, the leading road safety charity dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of correct tyre maintenance to reduce the risk of death and injury on UK’s roads. His appointment supports TyreSafe’s ambition to strengthen its presence in the road safety community and supporting the safe system approach.
Jason Simms has been working for TyreSafe for over nine years and is responsible for the day-to-day operations in his role of TyreSafe Manager.
An essential part of this role has been extending TyreSafe’s stakeholder engagement to encourage awareness of tyre safety to all organisations, whether large or small, commercial or public-owned. Jason represents TyreSafe at meetings of the National Road Police Operations and Intelligence group (formerly NRPIF) and works closely with partners such as National Highways, the Fire Service, Police and Trading Standards.
