New capabilities to understand locational risk in changing urban environments: A review of new insights and capabilities from large-scale investigations in the West Midlands
Mobility risk is rewritten as the world changes over time. How we move is evolving, road users vary behaviour and the environments through which we move are being redesigned and reimagined.
Such changes are least understood within our ever-shifting urban centres where shared space, micromobility, changed journey purposes, active travel all collectively revise the risk landscape. What changes should we prioritise however to best enhance safety?
This talk presents new extensions in both Road Assessment Programs (RAP) and traffic models which are being enhanced to better understand locational risk across our urban environments. These new capabilities come from work in the PHOEBE project, an ongoing large scale collaborative program investigating new means for urban risk estimation. This work span's locations and experts across the EU.
This talk will detail new capabilities and risk insights from investigative work in its largest use case, the West Midlands. This will detail frameworks to understand urban locational risk and new insights from these or scientific work including new insights into distracted driving.
