Biker Down!
Biker Down! was founded by Kent Fire and Rescue Service back in 2010. Biker Down! is a free programme, predominantly aimed at bikers and delivered across the UK mainly by Fire and Rescue Services (and other blue light colleagues). The course covers three modules:
- Scene management
- First aid, including helmet removal
- The Thinking Biker
The course covers prevention (module 3) as well as providing practical skills on how to safely remove a helmet, managing bleeds, and delivering CPR.
The Biker Down! team is in the process of implementing some changes to Biker Down!, which will be shared in this presentation.
Claire Harris, Road Safety Manager, Kent Fire and Rescue Service
Claire Harris began her career in road safety in 2012 with Medway Council.
As part of their Road Safety Team, she delivered road safety education programmes, supported Bikeability coordination, and oversaw the School Crossing Patrol Service. Claire has also contributed to road safety and active travel initiatives in other local authorities.
In 2019, Claire joined Kent Fire and Rescue Service, where she currently coordinates the activities of the Kent and Medway Safer Roads Partnership. Her responsibilities have since expanded to include internal road safety development, managing the Fire Bike Team, and steering the development of the nationally delivered Biker Down! Programme.
