Balancing Enforcement and Education: A dual approach to reducing Uninsured Driving
For almost 70 years, MIB has been dedicated to tackling the devastating issue of uninsured driving. In the last 20 years alone, our work with government, insurers and the police has helped seize more than 2.5 million uninsured vehicles.โ However, it remains a significant issue in the UK, with an estimated 300,000 uninsured vehicles on the road every day.
As the world evolves, so must the way we approach tackling those flouting the law. The availability of data, insights, technology and communication channels provides opportunities to create a solid two-prong approach to eradicate the issue.
Whilst we are retaining and developing our enforcement efforts to identify and seize uninsured vehicles at the roadside, we have ramped up our education initiatives in the last 18 months. These awareness and preventative measures focus on the next generation of drivers, newly qualified motorists, and those unaware of common insurance pitfalls.
By utilising a layered approach, segmenting those who are or who have the propensity to drive uninsured, MIB is reducing the issue at source. This enables roads policing units to focus resources on those choosing to flout the law by driving uninsured โ often in conjunction with other serious offences โ whilst MIB supports all road users in understanding the complexities of insurance products to maintain their compliant status.
