Getting the message across to young people using Theatre-in-Education
This presentation describes how for the last 25 years the award-winning TIE company, Wizard Theatre, has delivered quality shows and workshops for Primary School children, and gives delegates information about the programmes that can be put into their local schools.
From nursery aged children crossing the road with an adult, to Year 6s becoming more independent and preparing for a new school journey, maybe using public transport and traveling alone for the first time.
It will also include tangible evidence of how these workshops have prevented, and in one-case even stopped, an ongoing crime within hours of the session.
Leon Hamilton, Artistic Director, Wizard Theatre
Leon Hamilton started out as an actor with his first professional role at the age of 12 in the film Revolution with Al Pacino: film & tv credits since then include: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Wilde playing ‘Philip’, Notting Hill, Eastenders, Chucklevision, Spooks and The Office. Leon was also a regular character on the Johnny Vaughan Show and Dick N Dom In Da Bungelow.
At the age of 20 he did his first schools’ tour and quickly realised this is where his passion lay. He got to work with a number of fantastic Theatre in Education companies including the brilliant Stopwatch Theatre Company.
He was fortunate enough to write workshops and plays and when one of the charities he worked for closed, he was approached to take one of the sessions he had written out on the road himself and thus Wizard Theatre was born!
Almost 30 years later Wizard continues to deliver unique high-quality shows and workshops across the country to schools, colleges and theatres, winning T.I.E. Company of the Year for the last two years running.
