FirstCar

FirstCar has been publishing award-winning road safety education publications for almost two decades. Each year, over 1 million new drivers come into contact with the FirstCar brand.

Since 2012, we have worked in partnership with DVSA to publish FirstCar Theory and FirstCar Practical. Printed quarterly, around 1 million copies are distributed annually via theory and driving test centres, meaning the majority of  new drivers in the UK receives our magazines. Paid for by advertising, these editions also offer road safety teams the chance to insert localised content, signposting learners to regional initiatives, post-test training and campaigns. Reader feedback shows the impact - 89% learn something new, 88% believe they are safer drivers, and 93% say they will adapt their driving behaviour.

We also run The Honest Truth campaign, which equips driving instructors to deliver structured road safety messages during lessons. Backed by an instructor app, coaching resources and engaging Gen-z presented films, The Honest Truth helps ADIs embed discussions on 10 key risk areas into everyday training. With each instructor teaching around 40 learners annually, local road safety teams can fund participation at a cost of just £2.70 per learner – enabling measurable educational interventions at scale.

FirstCar produces award-winning safe road user magazines such as the Young Driver’s Guide, FirstBike, DriveOn, The Parent’s Guide, RideOn and Ultimate Guide to Cycling. In 2015, we produced world’s first VR crash car experience with Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and continue to develop film and share best VR best practice though the Immersive Community Education (ICE) Hub. We also run Young Driver Focus event annually alongside the RAC Foundation and RSGB.

Our motto is ‘helping road safety teams do more with less’. And as a small business that grew from a sixth-form common room, if there’s one thing we know, it’s how to be resourceful.
