Motor Insurers’ Bureau
For nearly 80 years, MIB (Motor Insurers’ Bureau) has played a vital role in tackling the issue of uninsured driving across the UK. Originally established to compensate victims of uninsured and untraced drivers, MIB now also works in partnership with insurers, government bodies and police forces to reduce this ongoing problem on our roads.
In the past two decades alone, our efforts have helped seize over 2.5 million uninsured vehicles. However, the issue remains significant, with an estimated 300,000 uninsured vehicles still on UK roads every day. These drivers not only break the law but also put lives at risk.
MIB’s work goes beyond managing claims and seizing known uninsured vehicles. We recognise that addressing the root causes of uninsured driving is essential. That is why we have implemented a targeted, intelligence-led approach to prevention. By identifying individuals who drive uninsured or are at high risk of doing so, we help the police focus on the most serious offenders, many of whom are involved in wider criminal activity.
At the same time, we support drivers in understanding their insurance responsibilities, helping them stay compliant in an increasingly complex market. This proactive approach allows us to tackle the problem at its source while continuing to support those affected by uninsured drivers.
