Conceptualising the role of NDORS driver diversion courses in a contemporary road safety and roads policing landscape
Emily Brannen’s PhD - Education as a criminal justice disposal: conceptualising the role of NDORS driver diversion courses in a contemporary road safety and roads policing landscape - considers the role of educations courses within the criminal justice system.
More than 1 million UK drivers were offered the chance to complete an educational diversion course, rather than a fine and licence endorsement during 2020, making this disposal one of the most likely outcomes for offending drivers - and one of the most likely encounters that an individual will have with the criminal justice system.
This presentation will discuss the findings of participant feedback surveys in regards to their attitudes towards road safety following their attendance on an NDORS course, and their expectations about the extent to which the course would, and did, feel like a punishment or an educational intervention.
