The partnership is committed to supporting victims and families of road traffic collisions in Warwickshire and the wider area. The partnership organises an annual service in Warwick for the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic victims, which is held on the third Sunday in November ever year.

At our service last year, the partnership unveiled plans to commission a memorial at Hartshill Hayes County Park. On the 7th of July the memorial was unveiled at a special event. The memorial has been carefully crafted with a decorative emblem featuring a tree of life, inscribed with: ‘Remembering lives lost and injured on our roads in Warwickshire’. It sits as part of the park’s commemorative wood and offers families a peaceful location to remember family members, friends or colleagues affected by a road traffic collision but also as a reminder of the partnership’s commitment to reduce killed and serious injuries on Warwickshire’s roads.

Chris Lewis, Development and Policy Lead, Victims of Crime and Road Safety at Warwickshire’s Office of Police and Crime Commissioner

Chris Lewis was a chief inspector in Warwickshire Police having leadership roles in roads policing and operations. He retired in 2013 and joined the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Warwickshire in 2014.

He leads on roads safety policy and partnerships for the Commissioner.

Chris played a key role in rejuvenating the Warwickshire Road Safety Partnership and now chairs the Operations Board of the Partnership whilst having a distinct interest in post-crash response and road victim care. He has had a significant role in ensuring Warwickshire remembers those who have died and been most seriously injured on the county’s roads – this led to the commissioning and unveiling of Warwickshire’s permanent memorial in July of this year.

He has also led the commissioning and delivery of the Independent Road Victim Advisor (IRVA) service that helps bereaved and most seriously injured victims cope emotionally and practically with their challenges.
