Ian Davey has been involved in sustainable transport in Brighton & Hove for over 20 years. Most recently he has been working on setting up and running the Brighton & Hove bike share scheme, BTNBikeShare. Prior to that Ian was a city councillor for eight years taking the lead on transport between 2011 and 2015. During that time he oversaw the introduction of 20mph speed limits, the development of high quality cycle infrastructure and a number of public realm improvement/road safety schemes. 

Before becoming a city councillor, Ian set up and ran a cycling charity Bike for Life with the aim of 'promoting cycling for all'. The organisation focused on delivering high quality cycle training to people of all ages and abilities.

Ian's first career was in IT, working for a number of large financial institutions throughout the UK. He has a BSC (Hons) Computer Science from Leicester Polytechnic and a MA in Environment, Development & Policy from Sussex University.

 

Launched in late 2017 BTN BikeShare has swiftly become one of the most popular and well used bike share schemes in the UK. The scheme is a public/private partnership between Brighton & Hove City Council and Hourbike, a leading UK bike share operator.  In this presentation, Ian Davey will outline how the scheme operates, why it is so successful and look at the available evidence of the safety impact of bike sharing.
