Road Victims Trust

The Road Victims Trust (RVT) provides specialist emotional and practical support to people affected by fatal road collisions across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire.

The majority of those supported are bereaved family members, offered free, long-term counselling and care. Support is available for as long as it is needed, tailored to individual circumstances. The service also extends to others traumatised by a fatal collision, including witnesses and those directly involved.

RVT operates with a small, dedicated team of 10 staff, including a Clinical Lead and five Coordinators who support both clients and volunteers. At the heart of the service are 73 trained volunteer counsellors, each of whom completes a robust two-month training programme.

A unique Service Level Agreement with the Tri-Force Police ensures RVT is notified of every fatal road collision in the region. This partnership enables immediate, timely support to be offered to those affected, free of charge. The Trust also works closely with coroners and is a key stakeholder on each of the three counties’ Strategic Road Safety Partnership Boards.

Founded in 1995, RVT marks its 30th anniversary in 2025. The charity has been recognised nationally, receiving the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2014 and the Prince Michael International Road Safety Award in 2016 for its exemplary post-collision support.

Through compassion, collaboration and commitment, the Road Victims Trust continues to play a vital role in supporting victims and advocating for safer roads.
