The benefits of taking a holistic approach to the delivery of public health, trauma and road safety services will be outlined in a presentation at the 2016 National Road Safety Conference.
The presentation will be delivered by Matt Staton and Dr Roderick Mackenzie, who have worked in partnership to integrate these services in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Road Safety Partnership has been redeveloped over the last two years to integrate public health, trauma and victim support services alongside the traditional emergency service and highway authority partners.
This joint presentation will cover why this holistic approach is important and how the integration has been managed. It will also recognising some of the challenges faced along the way, and look at the work this approach is enabling the Partnership to undertake going forward.
Matt Staton is the road safety education team leader at Cambridgeshire County Council and chair of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Road Safety Partnership’s Data and Intelligence Group.
He joined Cambridgeshire’s road safety team eight years ago and now heads a team of five who research, develop, implement and deliver road safety education activities across the county for all ages.
Rod Mackenzie is a consultant in emergency medicine and pre-hospital emergency medicine, and the clinical director of the East of England Major Trauma Centre at Cambridge University Hospitals.
He has 20 years’ experience in managing severely injured patients in both pre-hospital and hospital settings – having worked with air ambulance and ambulance services in the UK and overseas.
2016 National Road Safety Conference
The 2016 National Road Safety Conference is being hosted by Road Safety GB South West Region in Bristol on 15-16 November and is co-sponsored by Colas, Vysionics and Insure The Box. More than 150 people have already registered to attend the event and 16 companies will participate in the exhibition which runs alongside the conference.
The agenda will include sessions focusing on road user psychology, public health and road safety, and social marketing, social media and engagement.
