James Evans, Founder FirstCar

James Evans is the Founder of FirstCar, a company born out a sixth form common room in Kent in 2002 with the sole objective of keeping young drivers safe on the roads. Over the past 15 years, FirstCar has grown to publish more than 2.5 million magazines each year. While young drivers are where it all started, since 2013 FirstCar has also published titles for cyclists, motorcyclists, older drivers and parents of new drivers; all tailored for use by road safety professionals as education and engagement resources.

Over the past few years, FirstCar has grown its capacity to deliver high-quality film production and digital media projects. Most recently, FirstCar produced the world’s first virtual reality crash car experience with Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service. Other recent digital projects include the CycleSmarter e-learning package for Avon and Somerset Police and a Safe Drive Stay Alive film for use in Sussex.

FirstCar’s motto is ‘helping road safety teams do more with less’; they believe passionately that improved resourcefulness can go a long way to making up for the current lack of road safety resources, both human and financial.

Presentation: FirstCar Academy
FirstCar Academy (FCA) is a new, free-to-use, e-learning platform designed for 15-21-year-old pre-learner, learner and newly qualified drivers; FCA launches on 1 September 2017. Students register to watch a series of 14 short educational videos on a variety of road safety topics and must correctly answer one question per module to progress to the next level. It will take 60-90 minutes to complete all 14 online modules. A pass, merit or distinction will be awarded based on how many attempts taken to answer all the questions. On completion of the final module, graduates may download their completion certificate which unlocks exclusive discounts from FCA’s sponsors and other partners. In this presentation, James will explain how RSOs can get the most from the FirstCar Academy.
