GEM Motoring Assist

Founded in 1932, GEM has built a proud history of supporting motorists while championing practical action to reduce risk and save lives on UK roads.
Its work extends well beyond its membership, reflecting a clear commitment to safer travel for everyone—whether travelling by car, on foot, by cycle, motorcycle or horseback.
GEM is widely recognised as one of the UK’s most proactive motoring organisations in the road-safety field. It campaigns for safer driving behaviours, supports evidence-led initiatives and works with partners across the sector to tackle issues including driver fatigue, distraction, inappropriate speed and the protection of vulnerable road users.
A notable part of GEM’s contribution is its creation of Blue Light Aware, the popular free road-safety resource designed to help drivers respond safely, calmly and appropriately when emergency vehicles approach. The resource offers clear guidance and training materials that support safer interactions between the public and the emergency services, helping to protect responders and other road users alike.
Through the GEM Road Safety Charity, the organisation also funds innovative projects and support initiatives that inform, educate and inspire safer choices on the road. GEM values partnership, working alongside emergency services, driving instructors, policymakers, enforcement agencies, educators and community organisations to turn shared road-safety ambitions into practical action.
As a dedicated supporter of the National Road Safety Conference, GEM is proud to stand alongside fellow advocates in pursuing a shared vision: safer roads, safer journeys and fewer people harmed on our roads.
