It's time to give greater focus to minor collisions: When the pain doesn't end – support for victims and their families after road traffic collisions

Road traffic collisions can have devastating, long-term consequences beyond visible injuries. Brian Barr Solicitors specialises in supporting victims whose lives are transformed by chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia and complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), often triggered by road traffic collisions. These ‘invisible injuries’ can leave victims in constant pain, unable to work, and facing financial hardship — yet proving these conditions in legal cases is highly complex.

This workshop will explore the critical role of early medical intervention and specialist expertise in securing accurate diagnoses and building robust legal cases. It will examine why chronic pain conditions are often misunderstood and under-recognised, the legal challenges of proving them, and how a coordinated approach between medical professionals and specialist solicitors can help victims secure the compensation they need to rebuild their lives.

Stephen will be joined by Victoria Abbot-Fleming MBE, founder of Burning Nights, a national charity working to improve life for those affected by Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. Victoria's own inspirational story, and her extensive work with others who have suffered from CRPS and faced challenges following a road traffic collision, will bring authenticity and depth to this session.

Join us to gain insight into the intersection of medicine and law, and learn how road safety professionals can better identify and support those living with the hidden aftermath of road traffic collisions.
