Safe System Fatal Review Panels – working towards the establishment of a local panel

This workshop will introduce the concept of the Safe System Fatal Review Panel and will include a local example of a newly established panel and how they developed the idea for local application.

The workshop will provide an opportunity for those exploring the concept to ask questions, hear about resources that are available and plan their local way forward.

Dr Suzy Charman OBE, Executive Director, Road Safety Foundation (RSF)

Dr Suzy Charman is a leading expert on the Safe System, with over 20 years’ experience. In her role at RSF, Suzy leads the United Kingdom Road Assessment Programme and is a recognised thought-leader on speed management and infrastructure safety.

Prior to joining RSF, Suzy served as Head of International Road Safety at TRL and before that played a pivotal role in the establishment of the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP).

Saul Jeavons, Director, Transafe Network

Before becoming a Director of The Transafe Network, Saul Jeavons was formerly Head of Investigations and Risk Management at the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL), where his role included responsibility for road safety, collision investigation, and fleet safety teams, as well as on-scene management of rail crash incident teams.

Prior to his time at TRL he was Road Safety Manager of a leading private community safety consultancy having previously worked as an Area Road Safety Officer in a highway authority, also working in the Accident Investigation & Prevention Engineering and Safety Audit team.

 

Tanya FosdickTanya Fosdick, Chief Operating Officer, Agilysis

Tanya Fosdick continues to excel as a seasoned researcher, adept at translating intricate evidence into actionable practices. With over two decades of experience in the road safety sector, she remains committed to enhancing the efficacy of road safety interventions.

In addition to being Chief Operating Officer at Agilysis, Tanya has expanded her portfolio by assuming additional roles as a Trustee of the Road Safety Trust, Patron of the Road Victims Trust and an Honorary Advisory Panel Member of the Road Ethics Project in South Africa.

 

Marcus Alford-Longley, Principal Road Safety Engineer & Road Safety Auditor, Warwickshire County Council

With over 14 years’ industry experience, Marcus Alford-Longley oversees the fatal and road safety audits process for Warwickshire County Council.

Marcus designs and commissions casualty-reduction schemes and leads iRAP engineering for the Safer Roads Fund projects. He also collaborates with the planning department, providing road safety guidance from master plans to implementation. As chair of the Warwickshire Road Safety Partnership Operational Board, Marcus advocates for change across the organisation and its partners.
