This workshop will set the scene by explaining existing speed management approaches across the country, with examples drawn from the expertise and experience of members of the Safe System Network.

This will be followed by a time for discussion about how guidance, based on a set of core principles, can serve local transport authorities to deliver benefits for the public.

Margaret Winchcomb, Deputy Executive Director, PACTS

Margaret Winchcomb is a Chartered Civil Engineer with a passion for transport, focused on people. Since joining PACTS in 2021, Margaret has led the charity’s research and policy work.

Within her role as Deputy Executive Director, Margaret leads the charity’s engagement with its over 115 member organisations and delivers on wider aims set out in PACTS 2022 strategy, which she was involved in drawing up.

Dr Suzy Charman OBE, Executive Director, Road Safety Foundation (RSF)

Dr Suzy Charman is a leading expert on the Safe System, with over 20 years’ experience. In her role at RSF, Suzy leads the United Kingdom Road Assessment Programme and is a recognised thought-leader on speed management and infrastructure safety.

Prior to joining RSF, Suzy served as Head of International Road Safety at TRL and before that played a pivotal role in the establishment of the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP).
