On this tour delegates will receive an overview of Virtuocity, the research and facilities, followed by an interactive tour of the simulators. These will be facilitated by members of the research team and will include the opportunity to partake in demonstrations of each simulator. 

This will allow delegates to experience demonstrations of:  

• The UKs most advanced Driving Simulator, an 8 degrees of freedom motion system with a recently installed new Nissan Qashqai interface vehicle and 360 degree projection for a highly immersive driving experience.
• TruckSIM: a Volvo cab HGV simulator with a 3 degrees of freedom motion system allowing for accurate representations of HGV behaviour
• HIKER: a pedestrian simulator, the largest of its kind in the world, which utilises a 9m x 4m walking space which allows researchers to study pedestrian interactions with vehicles, infrastructure and environments with natural walking behaviour - without the use of VR headsets.
• Static and VR simulators with scenarios produced by a dedicated software development team including replays of lived experiences and future - or proposed - new environments and infrastructure.

The tour, while structured, will be relaxed with discussion and questions encouraged throughout.

Pete Woodthorpe is Programme Manager for Virtuocity, the University of Leeds' Centre for City Simulation.

He has operational responsibility for Virtuocity supporting both the research project teams and the technical team developing human-in-the-loop simulations to answer pressing questions and co-produce better and more cost-effective solutions to mobility systems and city design.
