Westcotec’s solutions deliver timely, relevant messages when they matter most. Signs and systems use sensors, cameras and real time data to respond to conditions ahead, including inappropriate speed, junction conflict, vulnerable road users, low bridges, flooding and unusual traffic movements. This enables authorities to go beyond static warnings and apply targeted interventions at known risk locations.

The portfolio includes vehicle activated signs, speed indication devices, variable message signs, collision avoidance systems, pedestrian and cycle detection, ANPR solutions, over-height detection and flood warning technology. Products can be fixed, portable, solar, solar & wind, or mains powered, with bespoke options for individual sites. Solar/Solar & wind powered systems reduce the need for trenching, cabling and grid connections, supporting quicker deployment, less disruption and lower carbon delivery.

Data is central to Westcotec’s approach, with systems able to record traffic flows, vehicle classifications and speeds, helping customers identify risk patterns and assess the effectiveness of interventions. Information can be accessed through the ‘Westconnect’ platform or integrated into existing systems through an open API, supporting wider transport, enforcement and road safety decisions.

Westcotec’s Automatic Speed Watch Camera is a flexible, rapidly deployable tool for gathering intelligence about speeding vehicles. It can capture vehicle registration number, make, model, colour, speed, date and time, and operate alone or alongside compatible Westcotec equipment. It gives authorities a practical way to understand local speed issues and support targeted enforcement.

As Westcotec enters its next 25 years, it is developing technology for more connected transport systems, guided by the recently published national Road Safety Strategy. Its V2X work is intended to complement roadside infrastructure, enabling compatible vehicles to receive safety information about hazards ahead while signs remain vital for all road users.
